Located at 5100 East Avenue S near 50th Street East, Sam Yellen Park originally opened in 2017. Its Phase II expansion developed land that had been reserved for future growth and brought the complete park to about 24.5 acres.

The City has also highlighted public art incorporated into the project, including the Wild and Alive Glass Mosaic Mural and the Having A Ball sculpture. These details help the park function as more than a collection of athletic fields.

One of the strongest features of Sam Yellen Park is the variety of activities available in the same location. Some Palmdale parks are primarily useful for one particular activity, but Sam Yellen Park can accommodate several kinds of visits.
The park’s seven futsal courts are particularly notable. Futsal is a fast-paced form of soccer typically played on a smaller hard or artificial surface, making the courts useful for skill development, organized games and casual recreation.

The larger park has also taken on a stronger role as a community-event location during 2026. The Palmdale Friday Night Market moved to Sam Yellen Park for this season, while Yellen Night Bites has added a Wednesday evening food-truck gathering.
As of August 10, the City’s calendar lists upcoming Yellen Night Bites events on August 12, 19 and 26, with the Wednesday series scheduled through September 16. Friday Night Market dates remain on August 14, 21 and 28, with the Friday season continuing through September 25.
That means the park can feel very different depending on when you visit. A quiet morning walk and a Friday evening market are essentially two different park experiences.
Dog owners should distinguish the dog park from market rules
There is one potentially confusing detail worth knowing. Although Sam Yellen Park has a dedicated dog park, the Palmdale Friday Night Market specifically does not allow dogs.
Do not assume that because dogs are welcome in the designated dog park they can automatically enter every special event held elsewhere on the property. Event rules can differ from normal park policies.
If you are visiting specifically for the dog park, check current City information before making a special trip. The City currently lists Sam Yellen Park’s regular hours as 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, but special programs, maintenance or other circumstances may affect individual facilities.

How to Plan Your Visit to Sam Yellen Park
Because Sam Yellen Park offers so many different amenities, the best way to visit depends on what you actually want to do. A family playground visit, futsal session, dog-park trip and night-market evening each require slightly different planning.
The park is located at 5100 East Avenue S and is currently listed by the City as open daily from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Two parking lots are among the listed amenities, including parking added as part of the expansion.

Choose the Best Time Based on What You Want to Do
If your goal is walking or fitness, morning and evening can be more comfortable during hot weather. Parents bringing younger children may also prefer cooler hours, especially because playground equipment and exposed surfaces can become hot in direct summer sunlight.
For a picnic, take advantage of the shaded table areas but remember that popular spaces may become busier during weekends and special events. If your plans depend on reserving a specific facility or hosting a larger gathering, check the City’s reservation procedures instead of assuming a space will be available.
Sports visitors should arrive with the equipment they need and understand that public courts or fields may sometimes be in use by other groups. The park’s range of facilities is a strength, but it also means demand can vary considerably.
